THE 20% SOLUTION: An Invitation to Act

This fall, in a process already well underway, the American people will decide the future of American democracy...and the ability of the human species to survive on this Earth.

But it all depends on a protected grassroots turnout, and a reliable vote count.  So we are urging donors to candidates, whether large or small, that a portion---20%---of all our candidate support go NOT to party-driven media buys, but instead directly to neighbor-based relational organizing and election protection.

A fascist tsunami of billionaires’ cash is already pouring down on all candidates suspected of supporting the democratic process. Attempts to dollar-for-dollar match those right-wing media buys are doomed.  

There IS an effective antidote: relational, grassroots community based organizing, with trustworthy messages from trusted messengers.    

That includes volunteer and fairly paid neighbor-to-neighbor door-knocking, phone banking, street-corner gab-fests, public gatherings… anything to get the vote out in a homegrown, tangible way. Plus on-the-ground legal and organizing work to counter anti-democracy ghost voting, top-down assaults on mail-in ballots, official eradication of drop boxes, fake vote counts, stripped registration rolls, rigged voting machines, KKK/ICE/MAGA vigilante assaults on the nation’s voting lists and stations, partisan audit denials...the relentless electoral larceny dating to Florida 2000, Ohio 2004, WI-MI-PA 2016, swing state 2026, and so much more.

No barrage of slick, clever, MAGA-mocking “progressive” ad spots can by itself defeat the billionaire fascist campaign already killing our democracy.

Only a peaceful army of homegrown person-to-person campaigners and organizers, citizen auditors, election board activists, vote count zealots and legal eagles can beat those billionaire media buys and strong-arm tactics meant to restrict voting and subvert a fair ballot tally.

For those of us planning to donate to pro-democracy candidates, just sending them cash won’t do it.  So let's clearly and forcefully designate a 20% portion of our support directly to community-based relational organizing, and bring out and then protect the vote while we bury those toxic, boring, endless billionaire media buys in the grassroots dust.
